Idiom Software was established in 2001 specifically to develop and market the IDIOM Business Rules Engine and related products.

The original 4 proprietors collectively represented nearly 100 years of bespoke systems development and sales experience. Through this experience they observed that a small number of critical issues were consistently at the root of customer concerns. These issues can be summarised as:

Systems constraining business agility
High software development costs
Extended development cycle times

Despite a global search, the group were unable to identify cost effective third party solutions to meet these needs and so the Idiom concept was developed.

The name Idiom was chosen for both the company and the product because of its meaning: ‘a means of expression that is natural to a specific group’ – this reflects Idiom’s goal of allowing business users to be able to define their core business knowledge directly into business computer systems, using the expressions and terminology that make up their own ‘idiom’.

Idiom Software continues to emphasise leading edge technologies, with special sector emphasis on the Insurance and Financial markets, Health, Logistics, Utilities, and Government.

By way of an investment in Idiom by Investors Guaranty™ Global Alliance (IGGA) in March 2003, Idiom became a member of the alliance.
